An RFID reader interrogates passive UHF tags and sends the captured codes to a tracking system. A single warehouse may require three different reader types: a multi-port reader at the gate, a desktop reader at the processing station and a handheld terminal for inventory counts. This page compares four types of UHF RFID readers and explains which one fits each task. We do not sell hardware from a stocked storefront; we select and supply it for each project.

All reader types use EPC Gen2 / ISO/IEC 18000-63. The standard is explained in our EPC Gen2 article.
Projects in Kazakhstan use the European ETSI 865–868 MHz band. A reader manufactured only for the US FCC 902–928 MHz band is unsuitable for deployment in Kazakhstan, even though it may look identical. Most models are available in both versions. During selection, we record the regional version in the specification and verify the frequency band, channels and power for the country of deployment.
We verify each scenario before procurement through a pilot in one area or by testing tags and readers in the laboratory.
A multi-port reader uses external antennas: one reader serves 4/8/16 antennas distributed across the control zone. An integrated reader has an antenna inside its enclosure, making it one device for one directional zone. A multi-port reader is more economical for gates with several frames, while an integrated reader suits a single driveway.
Usually two types: a portal or multi-port reader at receiving and issue for group reading of sewn-in tags, plus a handheld terminal for targeted search and reconciliation. The configuration depends on linen flow and site layout and is confirmed by an on-site pilot.
Use Wiegand 26 when the reader connects to an existing access control controller, RS-232/RS-485 when it connects to an industrial controller or automation system, and TCP/IP when data is sent to server software from several read points. PoE is preferable in the latter case because one cable carries both power and data.
Projects in Kazakhstan use the European ETSI 865–868 MHz band. A model designed only for FCC 902–928 MHz should not be ordered. We record the regional version during selection and verify the band, channels and power for the country of deployment.
