An integrated long-range RFID reader combines a UHF reader and antenna in a single enclosure. It is mounted above or beside a driveway and reads tags without stopping vehicles or running RF cables to external antennas. The rated maximum read range is 8–15 m, depending on model and conditions. This is the main equipment type used at checkpoints, car parks and gates where a tag on a windscreen or vehicle body must be detected automatically. We select and supply readers for each project based on the driveway geometry, tag type and integration method.

Common characteristics for this class include the EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C protocol, an integrated circularly polarised antenna with 6–12 dBi gain, adjustable transmitter power, 12 V or PoE power, and an ABS plastic or die-cast aluminium enclosure. Sizes range from compact enclosures (Р1) of approximately 110×56 mm to long-range panels (Р15) measuring 445×445 mm. Passive UHF RFID operates in the 860–960 MHz band, but equipment is produced in regional versions: for Kazakhstan, we select the European ETSI 865–868 MHz version; the FCC 902–928 MHz version is intended for the Americas. A fixed multi-port reader is a controller connected to several external antennas by RF cables. This architecture is used to build read zones on conveyors, large portals and sites with multiple checkpoints. An integrated reader creates one zone but is installed as a single device, with no cable selection or RF losses along the run. It is usually simpler and more economical for a single driveway or gate. An integrated reader has an antenna inside its enclosure: one device creates one read zone and requires minimal installation. A fixed multi-port reader serves several external antennas and several zones but requires RF cables and cable-run calculations. An integrated reader is usually sufficient for one driveway.
It is the rated maximum of the higher-end models with a favourable tag. In practice, a design margin is needed because window tinting and heating, vehicle metalwork, weather and the relative orientation of tag and reader reduce range. We therefore confirm the working range by on-site testing rather than relying on catalogue data.
Wiegand 26 connects the reader to an access control controller as a conventional card reader, while the existing system manages access rights. Digital outputs (GPIO) can control the barrier gate directly, and TCP-IP/PoE provides a server-side event log.
It is suitable for driveways, but textile tracking works differently: sewn-in tags are read in groups on a trolley or conveyor, where an RFID portal or read station is more effective. See RFID for textiles and laundries and the RFID portal page.
